For families looking to combine a fun, relaxing beach vacation with unique culture and history, Greece is a fabulous option! The iconic historical sights of Athens and the warm Mediterranean culture combined with the bluest of blue waters around the Greek islands make for an amazing family getaway. This summer, I have several families traveling to Greece – and all of their itineraries have one thing in common; Naxos.
Naxos is the greenest island in the Cyclades group of islands, and perhaps the most family friendly as well. Naxos island has everything from high mountains to rich, fertile valleys and of course miles of stunning beaches. Here on the island, locals in the villages still wear traditional dress, weave on old looms and live a simple life largely off the land. Here you can explore beautiful old churches, monasteries and Venetian castles and homes. In fact, Naxos has been continuously inhabited since the 4th Milennium BC and excavations around the island bring to light ancient artifacts and buildings almost daily.
Sure this island isn’t a famous as others like Mykonos or Santorini, and that’s what makes it ideal for families! Read on to discover the best place to stay on Naxos Island with kids.
Naxian Collection – Best Place to Stay on Naxos Island with Kids
Set amongst the cedar trees along the spectacular Naxian coastline and on the grassy hill of Stelida, the Naxian Collection of Luxury Villas and Suites is conveniently located for Naxos town and some of the island’s famous beaches, hotspots, and the settlements of Agios Prokopios and the port of Agia Anna.
Here you can book a traditional hotel-style room, a large family suite or a beautiful, private villa. This range of options for large and small family groups, makes the Naxian Collection one of the best places to stay on Naxos Island with kids.
The villas and suites reflect the Naxos-Cycladic architecture of the island and overlook the Aegean Sea. Furthermore, pools are shared with just one other room, so there’s plenty of space to play, and a flexible kitchen makes eating a treat.
All premium villas and suites are equipped with modern facilities such as fully-equipped kitchens, private pools, spacious terraces, fully-equipped Jacuzzi bathtubs or a private Hamam and are individually designed with oak furniture, marble and stone. Some are two level with queen size iron beds, spacious living rooms with fireplace, while the Elegant Villa is ideal for large families or groups, and features a small water pond.
I love the restaurant on site as well as wine tasting in the hotel’s cellars, but you’ll also find plenty of dining options nearby in the town. It’s the best of both worlds – private villas and private pools combined with the amenities of a larger resort.
Be Sure to Get onto the Water!
Then, if you only do one thing while on Naxos island, be sure to get out on to the water! I love to arrange for my clients to head out on a catamaran for the day so you can sail to beaches accessible only from the water. You’ll be joined by a captain and a few staff and can fully customize a day at sea, including snorkeling, a lovely lunch and drinks on the boat. Some clients even use this as a transfer option between Naxos and Paros on an island-hopping itinerary!
